Witham Wheeler youth rider Sam Grundy rode in the first round of the National Youth Omnium Series at the Lee Valley Velodrome in London on Sunday 12th March. The Omnium is a test of track cycling versatility, combing five events in a single day. It was Sam’s first race at a national level, but this didn’t deter him. He managed 5th place in the first event, the 1km individual time trial with a PB of 1 minute 18.81 secs. This was followed by 16th in the Scratch race, 13th in the Elimination, 11th in the Sprint, and 10th in the Points race. This secured him 10th place overall, a fantastic achievement. Three further rounds are scheduled in which Sam aims to secure a place in the National finals in July.
