Club Rides Best Practice

The following guidelines are based on those provided by British Cycling, with which the club is affiliated. The club recommends that riders take out individual cycling insurance through a recognised national cycling body, such as British Cycling or Cycling UK.

  1. Group rides have a predetermined start time of:
    – 08:30 March to October
    – 09:00 November to February
  2. Saturday social rides will start from Wyndham Park car park (near the bus stop), NG31 9BB (What Three Words: thudding, battling, remover) at 09:00 unless otherwise stated.
  3. All rides start from Grantham Market Place unless otherwise stated (postcode NG31 6LJ, What Three Words ranks, goals, best)
  4. The route will be advised on the club Facebook page and WhatsApp group on the Friday preceding the ride.
This will be in either or both of the following
    – Strava GPX file with the destination cafe noted
    – Description of the route and the direction to be taken
  5. Routes are generally between 50 and 70 miles long (80 – 110km) and include a cafe stop unless otherwise advertised.  Note that a selection of routes can be found on the club website under the heading ‘Cycling’
  6. All participants should comply with the highway code, and refrain from taking any actions that could expose other road users or club members to the risk of accident or injury.
  7. All adult participants are responsible for their own well-being during the ride and should be prepared for unforseen situations such as mechanical failures, adverse weather or flat tyres.
  8. In case of any problem during the ride, such as changes in weather conditions, mechanical issues or accidents involving members of the group, other riders should be informed as soon as possible so that the group can be stopped at a safe location before the situation is assessed and appropriate action taken.
  9. Riders should not be left behind during a club ride. All riders should be aware of the person behind them. Contact phone numbers for club members are available through the club WhatsApp group. A contact number for guests should also be provided.
  10. Any rider wishing to take an alternative route should inform other memners of the group.
  11. Riders should be encouraged to take part in activities that are within their capabilities.
  12. Riders shall wear helmets on all rides. The club recommends that bikes are fitted with front and rear lights.
  13. Non-club members are welcome, but are expected to join the club after three rides.
  14. All riders must be at least 12 years old and be competent at a level equivalent to Level 2 Cycling Training Standards. A signed parental consent form is required before anyone under the age of 18 is allowed on a club ride.
  15. There is a greater duty of care for riders under the age of 18 years. If there are riders between 12 and 18 on the ride then a responsible adult should be pre-arranged to take responsibility for these riders, ensuring that they are not left on their own at any time during the ride
