Witham Wheelers young riders took part in the annual interclub Go-Ride races at the Heckington Show. Luckily the heavy rain from the day before had cleared away and a strong wind helped dry the track out although making for some hard racing.Â
This year there were 6 rider teams from Grantham, Spalding and Bourne with an age range from 10 to 16 making for some interesting racing as the different ages of each team making the result difficult to predict. The race programme consisted of Individual Pursuit, One lap sprint, Italian Team Pursuit and 4 lap scratch race.
In the end the Italian pursuit where each rider complete half a lap before swinging off to leave the next rider on the team to take over the effort, proved decisive as Bourne just headed Witham by 2 seconds with Spalding 10 seconds further behind. This was how the overall result finished with Witham handing over the trophy they won last year.
Thanks to Tracey McAndrew the club Go-Ride coach for organising and putting the team together and the parents and club members for helping out on the day, its a great days racing giving the youngsters a chance to compete in front of a large appreciate crowd in the main arena at Heckington.
