On Saturday Witham Wheelers Martyn Ludlam, Adam Egner & Reece Egner along with ex-wheeler Peter Cocker went down to the Darley Moor circuit near Ashbourne for the second of the races. In the first race, the 3/4 category was Martyn Ludlam who sheltered himself throughout the majority of the race with the wind being so strong down the back straight, saving his legs for when it mattered. With a solo breakaway going with 4 to go the group left it until the very last to chase him down and as they caught him in the bunch gallop for the line, Martyn managed to sprint to a top 5 placing.
In the E/1/2/3 race, the pace was high with Pursuit champion John Archibald and his Ribble teammates pushing for a breakaway. With no let-up in the pace, the race was strung out for a long while with Peter and Reece getting in moves before they were brought back in, but nearing the end of the race a break of 2 manged to sneak away and stay clear by just a few meters over the finish line. With the bunch then sprinting for 3rd, first in was Peter who sprinted to 9th position with Reece shortly following in 15th and Adam in 20th position. With 3 out of 4 riders scoring points it was a good days racing for the local lads.
On Sunday wheelers Reece Egner and Martyn Ludlam were back in action at the 1st of the EMRRL series. It was a 50 mile race with an 80 strong field that didn’t let anything go after an early break of 2 snook away. Reece and Martyn were surfing the pack when with a lap and a half to go there was a crash on the narrow lane which reece got caught up in. He jumped up off the grass verge and chased back on to the group with just enough time to recover before the messy sprint finish where after just missing yet another crash Reece managed to scrape a point in 15th position with Martyn only a few places back.
