Leicester Classic – Sunday 12th
Once again the city centre played host to the latest round of the HSBC British Cycling Premier calendar series with all the leading British based teams represented in the 120 rider field. On this tight 3km circuit the pace is always full on from the start as the leading riders try to give themselves some space. On the second lap 22 riders got a gap with local rider Peter Cocker (Richardsons Cycles) just on the wrong side of it and unable to bridge across. Over the next 2 hours the chasing group constantly split with Peter always working at the front as the gap never went beyond a minute and even closed to less than 30 seconds with 4 laps to go. But it was not to be and Peter eventually rolled in for an excellent 32nd overall with only 11 riders left in the chasing group. The race was won by Gabriel Cullaigh (Team Wiggins) in a spectacular sprint as 4 riders crashed across the line, with thankfully no serious injuries.

Support Races – Saturday 11th
In the morning youth events the club was represented by Ethan Squires in the Under 12s race, where he rode really well in a field of 20 riders. A very competitive race with Ethan playing his part in the bunch riding with aggression and only just losing out towards the end when the leading riders broke clear of the bunsh.
On saturday afternoon NRT racing’s brothers Adam and Reece Egner along with ex-wheeler Alistair Golby went down to Leicester to do the 2/3 cat closed circuit race. It was a small tight circuit, and a fast pace was quickly established in the 50 strong field. The lads stayed near the front and went with a couple of moves, but nothing stuck. In the dying laps, a group of 4 managed to sneak away and hold on until the finish, where the win was taken by Cameron Orr (100% ME) national squad moutain bike rider.
Back in the bunch after a couple of late surges from all 3 riders, best placed at the finish was Reece in 8th place, followed by Adam in 12th. Alistair wasn’t in a great position for the hectic sprint so thought better of it and rolled in. A good close quarters race for all ex-wheelers.
