Last Friday, Mick Egner, Adam Egner and Dave Moulds went up to Manchester to take part in the first track league of the newly starting track season. With tired legs from a hard road season, none of us really expected anything amazing but we were pleasantly surprised.
In the first race, the unknown distance, Mick was on the front for most of the race and when it came to the last lap, Adam came 4th with Mick in 5th and Dave 6th.
Following this race was the elimination race where Adam and Mick rode it from the front to stay out of trouble. Dave came 7th in the high paced field with Mick finishing 3rd and Adam winning the race.
Next up was the 16 lap scratch race, where Adam tried two attacks, neither successful as the pace was so high. With two laps to go Adam went for a final time and managed to hold off the chasing group until the last bend where he ended up getting 2nd with Mick in 7th and Dave in 8th.
Next was Dave’s favourite race, the 4 lap dash. As soon as the race started a break away group of 5 got away with Dave and Adam both in there. When it came to the sprint, Dave was tired from being on the front and got 5th whilst Adam got 3rd. Mick got the best of the group behind finishing 6th.
Finally it was Adam’s favourite, the 20 lap points race. In the first sprint, Adam got 2nd and a break away of four got away, this time involving Mick and Adam. Coming to the 2nd sprint, Adam won and Mick got 4th after being on the front, however Mick continued to ride on the front with the break away now down to 3. The 3rd sprint came and Mick again lead it out, taking 2nd and just losing it to Adam. Finally the final sprint was contested by the whole field as the break away was eventually brought back. Adam managed to get 2nd in this sprint making him the winner of the race overall with Mick and Dave finishing high up the group. Mick came 5th overall and Dave was unfortunate to miss the break away.
All in all it was a good night for the wheelers showing them that they are set for a good winters racing.
