Mick Egner and Dave Moulds went up to the velodrome at Manchester to make their debut in the first track league of the season. As they both had a chesty cough they did not expect much for themselves but weren’t they surprised.
In the first race, the unknown distance, Mick put up a good fight on the front to get 2nd but someone just pipped him on the line for the win. Dave was just behind and got 6th in the sprint. Next, in the elimination race Dave came through from the back of the 28 rider group to stay in until finally being knocked out in 12th and Mick managed 6th.
In the scratch race, Mick came right from the back to try a breakaway with three laps to go but could not hold on and got 6th whilst Dave got 8th. Next came the 4 lap dash where the group was split up from the get go. Dave held on and stayed in the wheels to get a creditable 6th and Mick just chilled at the back as he knew he didn’t have the kick for it. Finally it was the 20 laps points race where again the group went off fast and Mick and Dave tried to go for the third and fourth sprints where Mick got 2nd in the 3rd sprint and Dave following in 5th just out the points.
Overall Mick got joint fifth so not a bad night at all considering it was their first ever go at track racing. Both are looking forward to the next one which will be on the 14th of Feb.
