Witham Wheelers promoted the latest round of the Lincs Handicap Road Race league held over 3 laps of the 12 mile Skillington road race circuit. A field of 59 riders were split into 4 groups set off with time gaps of 6, 5 and 2 minutes respectively.

At the end of lap 1 the 3 riders in group 1 were still there but their lead had been reduced to 2 minutes with the large group 2 (28 riders) 2.26 ahead of group 3 and the scratch group a further 1.19 back.

A lap further on and group 2 was now in the lead with just a 56 second lead on group 3 and the scratch group closing at 30 seconds.

It all came together on the stretch from Sproxton to Skillington and the bunch was starting to stretch on the drag out of Skillington. With the main hill only a mile before the finish it favoured younger legs with 17 year old Kieran Hotson from Grimsby just getting the better of U23 George Thompson (Giant Store Rutland – Wattbike) from Sleaford and Junior Adam Egner (Witham Wheelers) from Grantham.

At the HQ the first 3 were presented with prizes and Kieron retained the Yellow jersey of current League Leader.

As usual a well organised event by Tony Mendham and a great turnout of club members to set out the course, sign-on, marshall, drive lead cars, judge and serve tea. Several riders commented on how well the course was marshalled helping to make for a good race.
