The weekend saw both Robert McAndrew and then Jennifer McAndrew taking part in the Pennies in the Park Cycle Fest at Thoresby, Nottinghamshire.
First up on the Saturday was Robert McAndrew in the under 14’s race.  This was a particular fast race with the under 14’s starting with the older under 16’s.  The pace was fast from the gun, and the under 14’s soon mostly formed into their own bunch, riding just behind their older counterparts. There were many attacks off the front with Robert either doing the attacking or chasing down other riders.  He worked hard and finished with a very creditable 4th place.
Jennifer McAndrew raced on the Sunday in the women’s event.  With a large field the race started fairly quickly with attacks coming most laps, this soon resulted in a breakaway bunch of 9 riders of which Jennifer was part of.
With 3 laps to go she tested her group with an attack but was reeled back in, so with 1 mile to go Jennifer made her strongest attack off the front. The bunch chased her down, only catching onto her with 100 mtrs to go when she kicked again for an uphill finish. Despite the previous effort she held all but one rider at bay for 2nd place overall, also being first junior.
