The Witham Wheelers promoted the 5th race in this year’s Lincs League series on Wednesday evening 25th June. This is a series of races where the riders are split into ability groups.
The circuit used was the regular testing 11.5 mile route through Hungerton, Saltby, Sproxton, Skillington and Ponton Heath. The weather was good for racing, dry and only a gentle breeze.
The Witham Wheelers had good representation in the race and the Groups all raced hard with a lively pace throughout the race. Group 1 were caught by the fast moving Group 2 on the 2nd lap with Gary Rand, Dave Moulds and Crispin Bridges-Webb working well.
Group 3 and 4 came together during the 2nd lap with Reece Egner, John Farmer and Peter Barnes playing an active role as well as Llewellyn Byrne. Harry Browning, riding for Pedal Pushers was also in the action.
On the last lap all the groups came together and as the race approached the hill for the final time the pace was hotting up as the fast boys positioned themselves for the sprint to the finish line from the top of the hill.
It was fast and furious as they approached the finish with George Thompson (Sleaford Wheelers) finishing ahead of the bunch. Harry Browing finished 6th and the best placed Witham Wheeler was our youngest rider, Reece Egner coming in the top 10. Not far behind were Gary Rands and Dave Moulds followed by Crispin Bridges-Webb.
