Jenny McAndrew as a 16 year old Junior rider, rode up in her first Senior Road Race of 2014. On a hilly and pothole strewn course in Northants Jenny lined up as the youngest in the field in the NCRA 33 Mile Handicap Road Race. Jenny started in the first group which contained very experienced riders and this group managed to stay away from the main group for 2 of the 3 laps.
On each of the first 2 laps there was a prime (sprint bonus), and Jenny won both primes, sprinting to overtake an earlier attack by one of the other riders on the first lap, and attacking early on the second lap to secure the prize.
The scratch group caught them with 5 miles to go, and Jennifer stayed with them until the last mile when the fast men really increased the pace. Jenny did however outsprint some of the other juniors’ (of which she was the only girl), with a fine overall result of 2nd Junior
