4/8 Race 6 Yarborough sports center Lincoln Promoted by Lincoln Wheelers
In the under 14’s Adam Egner rode a strong race constantly trying to attack as he knew he wasn’t the best on the sprint, however his breakaway companions never let him get too far away and it eventually came down to a sprint and he took a strong third behind James Armstrong of VC Lincoln. Robert McAndrew also rode a solid race for 10th place.
In the under 16’s Reece Egner was in a group of about 8 and feeling strong tried several times to break away but none of them made a significant gap. Coming into the final sprint Reece still felt strong but misjudged the sprint, however he recovered to take a disappointing but creditable 4th.
Schoolgirl Jennifer McAndrew first of all raced in the U16 race over 40 minutes, winning the girls race comprehensively. With only minutes break between, Jennifer then rode up a category in the adult ladies race, which was nearly twice as long. There were a number of ladies from racing teams who had more experience and tested Jennifer to the full, but she held in as the field was whittled down by the pace, and on the last lap Jennifer kicked hard into the last bend to ensure a good position coming out of the corner and outsprinting the bunch to win her second race of the day.
In the 4th category event Mick Egner and Mark Kokocinski were riding their first open circuit races. Unfortunately after 15 minutes there was a touch of wheels on a corner with Mark hitting the tarmac leaving him with a bloody face and sore wrist, after a lap out he continued chasing the bunch just 15 seconds behind but never quite able to close the gap. Post race check by the medics revealed a possible wrist fracture but no luckily further serious injuries.
