The latest round of the Pedalpushers circuit race series took place at Barkston Heath promoted by Sleaford Wheelers. Although numbers were a little down due to a clash with other events, there was some great racing in the hot and dry conditions.
Under 12s: ex club rider Kerrigan Robb took his first win after a string of top 3 places.
Under 14s: saw a great ride by Adam Egner getting in a break with James Armstrong from VC Lincoln and finishing an excellent second his best placing so far. Also Robert McAndrew finished 7th and Erin Courtman 10th
Under 16’s: older brother Reece went one better: after trying a break on the first lap which didn’t work he attacked again two laps later and managed to hold on for his first win, 13 seconds ahead of the chasers who realised too late how well Reece was racing. Jennifer McAndrew also won the girls event. After a slow start she recovered well to overhaul rival Rebecca Richards of Newark with a couple of laps to go.
4th category: Not to be outdone dad Mick Egner had a go at his first circuit race and was prominent at the front throughout the race and was ready to compete in the final sprint until being put on the grass on the last lap and finished in the bunch.
Ladies: Jennifer McAndrew also rode the Ladies only race and did well to finish 8th in the hot conditions.
2/3 category: Peter Cocker dominated the final race of the day for second and third category riders, driving the pace on at the front of the bunch and making repeated attacks until finally the elastic snapped and only Darren Perry was able to cross the gap. Sharing the pace for the last 20 minutes before on the penultimate lap Peter broke away for a comfortable solo win.
