Sleaford Wheelers Charity 10 4th April 2015

Saturday 4th April saw a record field of 121 starters for Sleaford Wheelers Charity 10 mile time trial run on the A15 between Sleaford and Osbournby.
Cool conditions faced the 22 Witham Wheelers starters but fortunately the winds of earlier in the week were absent with a only a light northerly breeze assisting the riders on the way out but not significantly hindering on the return leg.
Fastest Witham Wheeler on the day and 9th overall was John Pilgrim with 22 minutes 15 seconds closely followed by a rapid Reece Egner clocking a personal best of 22.20 which placed him 11th overall and giving him the 1st Junior award, Alistair Golby was 3rd fastest club rider and also 2nd Junior overall.
Other notable results were Adam Egner with 25.35 and Robert McAndrew with 26.22 who won 1st and 2nd Juvenile respectively.
The event was won by Ian Guilor of Mapperley CC in a time of 21.34.

The Michael Vickers Memorial Trophy was won by Adam Egner as fastest Juvenile in this event.

Congratulations to Ian Guilor for achieving his first ever win in an Open event. Also to Sarah, Reece and Adam the quickest Lady, Junior and Juvenile. With Adam taking home the Michael Vickers Memorial Trophy.

What a way to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Sleaford Wheelers. A Full Field of 120 surpassed with the District allowing the 150 rider option, that meant all 129 entries got a ride.  Had that not been allowed, surprisingly one reserve would have been disappointed as amazingly with such a large entry there were only 8 riders that did not start. Riders look for and treasure pb’s.

I also have pb’s, so I have to say that I am over the moon in achieving a Full Field plus, in only my 14th promotion in 9 years since coming to Lincolnshire. It took me 35 years promoting 63 opens in SEDC before it “happened” and I managed it again the following year. I always said I could not wait that long in Lincs DC but I thought that it would happen in the Nev Crane ’25.’So really pleased that it has ”happened” in the Charity event, as it has mean’t so much more to go to Cancer Research.UK. £1142 handed over on the day to Sue Watson the Charity Ambassador. There is definitely another £110 to follow and if you all get tucked  in to www.lincsracephotos.co.uk/ every penny that Steve  receives will also follow.

Thank you to Timekeepers Steve Walker (Lincoln Whs) and Sharon Fensom (Spalding CC). Thanks to to Julie and Dennis assisting the time keeper and ensuring Howard on the result board was kept busy and as usual doing a splendid job. Sue the Cancer Research ambassador accepted to help at the signing-on along side Julie, Denise, Daisy. Until Julie was required at the finish and Denise and Daisy moved over to the T Bar. Officials at the Start were Malc keeping the riders in order and Terry and George the holder uppers. Again thank you. Big thanks too to Jon Surtees (Swift CC), Robyn, Brian, Ben and Ian for standing out in the cold for over 2 hours and then Ben and Ian brought back all of the many signs I had place out earlier. As usual Kath had spent many hours baking a delightful spread of cakes appreciated I am sure by all. Thank you, thank you, thank you every one.

Even more thanks to Jean Crane our President who kindly donated  Easter Eggs for the prize awards and the Raffle. Also to Chris for again sorting out a decent result board instead of my usual written (scribbled ) effort and Linda who “hurried” back from competing in the event to help with whatever task I thrust upon her. Hopefully I have not left anyone out. If so, my apologies and consider yourself included.

Thanks go to Pedal Pushers of Grantham and Stephen Forman (Lincsracephotos) sponsors of the event, Also to St Botolphs Community Centre for allowing us the HQ at well below normal cost and to those that sent in more than the entry fee required, supported the Tea Bar, gave Donations or supported the Raffle.

Photos taken at this event are now live on www.lincsracephotos.co.uk/ Steve, is a regular on the Lincs scene.  His prices are very reasonable.  If the link does not work Google will find him.
