In today’s cyclo-cross race at Ancater Go-Kart track, Adam Egner and Robert McAndrew represented the wheelers in the youth race. Adam made a mess of the start dropping back into the field as it was only his 2nd cross race, but soon found himself overtaking a group in the headwind and then trying to reel people in for the remainder of the 30 min race. Adam finished 8th overall and 6th for his age group with Robert finishing just outside the top ten.
Next was the Under 10/12 year category, and Witham Wheelers were strongly represented with 8 riders.  Billy Reed battled against a series of mechanical’s to finish a strong 2nd Under 10 and 16th overall, Max Moore was close behind finishing 17th.  Beth McLoughlin outsprinted Tazmin Brown to finish 4th and 5th girls.  Mazel Brown was 1st Under 10 Girl, an incredible race for her first cyclo cross event.  Other finishers were Callum East, Jack Simpson and Leo Moore.
Finally, Darren Reed, Reece Egner, Alistair Golby, Dave Miller and Graham McAndrewtook part in the 60 minute senior race with over 100 riders. Best finisher was Darren who managed to get through the early traffic and get into a good position early on andfinished 3rd MTB rider. Next was Reece who was held up in traffic early on and suffering from a cold. Then it was Dave not too far behind with Alistair pulling out with a crash that dislocated his finger preventing him from braking as did Graham McAndrew also following a heavy crash.
All in all it was a good day for the wheelers.
