Well the weather gods certainly smiled on us as 29 riders ‘enjoyed’ the delights of a 100 mile lumpy route. Heading out into the Vale of Belvoir before turning south through Rutland past Launde Abbey and into the Welland valley to pass under the Harringworth viaduct. The return to Grantham past Rutland Reservoir at Empingham before heading to Grimsthorpe Castle and onto Ropsley.
It was an 8.00 start from the Meres setting out in groups of 6 to meet Covid distancing requirements. With quite a wide variety of abilities the first group arrived back at around 2.00 averaging 20.2mph moving time for the route. Several groups rolled back over the next hour at around the 17mph mark, with the last riders making at back 5.45.
Great to say that everyone made it round, although the rolling (hilly?) nature of the route coupled with the distance and the afternoon heat did make it a real challenge.
Thanks to Alan and Janet for providing support on route and the photos and Gill for the Flapjack, just what was needed.
The riders who took part, in no particular order, as follows, apologies if I’ve missed anyone.
