Witham wheelers promoted the latest round of the Linc’s Cyclo-Cross league going back to their original location at Sproxton after trying a few local alternatives for a couple of years. With unusually warm and dry conditions for the time of year there was some fast racing on the flowing course. The under 16s were first up with Isla Kolbert 12th overall and 1st girl, while Oliver Bailey was left with a long run to the pits after a mechanical and did well to recover for 10t. Winner Harrison Evans from Sleaford.
The younger riders race over a shorter course to make it a fun event with time for plenty of spectator encouragement. Local riders Daniel Goddard 4th, Charlie Sentence 7th and Tabitha Goddard 10th in the U9s, and Max Kolbert 4th and Benjamin Goddard 8th in the U12s
The womens event saw a great sprint finish by Amy Kolbert to take 2nd overall and first Junior on the finish line with Julie Clark 4th (1st Vet). Joshua Hemmings was third Junior man. Jake Jackson (Rose RT) won the senior mens race.
The Veterans Race was won by Corby Glen rider David Earth (Rose RT) with Neil Sentance 25th (12th vet 40) and Simon Cocker 31st (2nd Vet 60).
The event takes place on what are essentially 2 large sloping grass fields and it takes a lot of work to make an interesting and challenging course. A 2.5 km course means hundreds of stakes and almost 5km of tape had to be put out and collected in after the event. With helpers putting in 3 hours Friday afternoon, 3 hours Saturday morning and then starting before 8.00 on Sunday, Race day and finally stopping at 5.00 in the evening, it was a great effort by all concerned.
