Just 15 weeks now before the biggest ever sports event comes to Lincolnshire and the organisation is now well on its way to making this a spectacle to be remembered.

Entries are now open for all the events during this 4 day festival of cycling via links on the event web site www.nationalroadchamps.co.uk  These all close on June 2nd in order to produce the 48 page colour souvenir programme.

The Championships Time Trials on Thursday June 25th will be held to the east of the county in the Lincolnshire Wolds and based on the picturesque Cadwell Park Motor Racing Circuit. This is currently owned and operated by Jonathan Palmer’s Motor Sport Vision but was originally opened in 1934 as a chalk track by Mr Mansfield Wilkinson of Louth on some land used by his sons for motorbike racing.

In 1953 the circuit was extended to 1.3 miles and again in 1962 to its current 2.2 miles. It is sited across a steep-sided valley, giving rise to dips and crests. The circuit features sharp changes in gradient, including one section called The Mountain where motorbikes can become airborne by up to several feet. Its mix of eleven challenging corners has led to its nickname as the Mini-Nurburgring. The circuit regularly holds a round of the British Superbike series and has many car test days fitted in amongst a host of other motorbike events.

The riders in the British Cycling National Time Trial Championships will start in the pit lane and complete almost a lap of the circuit and leave after the mountain climb out on to a closed roads country circuit using the Bluestone Heath Road crossing the top of the Lincolnshire Wolds and passing through the village of Ruckland via a long descent and a double bend before a testing climb out of the village. Ruckland is sited on the Greenwich Meridian line and the riders will cross this twice as they switch from left to right and back again through the village.  This is part of a 7 mile circuit which the women and under 23 men will cover twice and the elite men three times before heading back to Cadwell to finish on the motor racing finish line for total distances of 21 and 28 miles.

There will also be supporting events at Cadwell Park starting at 9 am prior to the time trial championships.

We are pleased to announce further support for the events and the appointment of Impsport as the official souvenir merchandise outlet as well as the supplier of promotion equipment and volunteers clothing.

‘Peter Merrick, Managing Director of Sports and Leisure brands Ltd, the owners of the Impsport cycling brand says; Impsport is very pleased to continue their support as Sponsors to The British Cycling National Road Championships, this year being held in Lincoln, Impsport’s home town. Impsport has long established relationships with some of the largest names in Sport with over 30 years of experience in manufacturing garments for Tour de France champions, Olympic and Commonwealth Games medalists and world champions. This has made Impsport one of the leading names in high performance cycling, triathlon and athletics clothing.

Impsport will have a presence at each of the disciplines throughout the 4 days of the championship events where they will offer souvenir t-shirts, hoodies and cycling kit for sale.

Impsport has recently launched its 2015 catalogue which can be viewed at www.impsport.com  Why not design your own cycling jerseys and shorts using the Impsport interactive kit designer at www.cyclingkitdesigner.net

County wide solicitors Ringrose Law are another company aiming to have a high profile at the championships.

Speaking on behalf of the company Alex Bennett said : ‘Ringrose Law is delighted to be sponsoring the British Cycling National Road Championships this summer in the heart of the City of Lincoln. Ringrose Law is a Lincolnshire firm and has been serving individuals and businesses across the County for over 100 years. To be involved in such a prestigious and magnificent event in the City is a brilliant opportunity for us to promote the wonderful County in which we all live and work.’

Support will also be given both financially and logistically by Lincolnshire County Council, The City of Lincoln Council, East Lindsey District Council and West Lindsey District Council. All four authorities are fully supportive of the events taking place in their areas with the time trials opening the championships on June 25th in East Lindsey’s Lincolnshire Wolds and the Cadwell Park motor racing circuit.

The road races on June 28th are based on the well known Lincoln Grand Prix circuit with opening loops taking the riders out of the City through the West Lindsey areas before returning to Lincoln to complete finishing laps of the 8 mile Grand Prix circuit.

More of historic Lincolnshire and further sponsor announcements will be published very shortly.

Spectator tickets for the time trial championships at Cadwell Park on Thursday June 25th are now on sale. This is a great venue where the riders will be seen four times including the start and finish and twice up The Mountain.
Grandstand tickets for Saturday and Sunday at the finish line in Lincoln’s Castle Square are also on sale but hurry as there are not a lot remaining.

These events will bring the best of the country’s cyclists to Lincolnshire to race against the clock for the title of Britishtime-trial champion with the winner able to wear the national champion’s jersey for the following year. Timing will be recorded electronically with each rider’s bike being fitted with a transponder from which they will be tracked around the course with times displayed on a big screen for all to follow. The women and Under 23 men will cover two laps of the country circuit for a full distance of 21 miles and the men three laps for 28 miles. The circuit will be totally closed to traffic and parking on the course will not be permitted.

Spectators in the venue will be able to see the riders four times as they cover the two laps of the Cadwell Park circuit.

If anyone would like to get involved with helping during this race week then see the attached details as to how you can apply.

making it happen

You can also keep up to date through the event web site

See the press release giving full details of the plans for next years National Road Race Champs, looks to be a fantastic few days of racing right on your doorstep, not to be missed.

2015 National Road Race Champs

I see the Time Trial circuit includes one of my favourite climbs Ruckland Hill. This follows the very fast descent off the Bluestone Heath road straight into a big S bend before immediately hitting the Ruckland Hill climb, its a short but sharp climb (about 1 minute 40secs worth)  this will be  a real bike handling test and a great place to watch.

If anybody wants to compare them selves to the top riders then you should consider having a go, a lot of the top time triallers will not enter due to the the presence of hills in the route.
