Website
All being well you will shortly see a new website format when you log onto the club site.
• The existing site has done very good service and has been much admired by many people, both club and non-club members, however it has become increasingly difficult to keep it looking current and has become a little cluttered.
• The new site has been developed by Jon Beere using WordPress which will give us direct control of the appearance and content of the site.
• Initially the site will have mainly 2014 information but we have a record of all the old data and the plan in due course is to load that onto the new site.
• The discussion forum will remain the same.
• Photographs will now be viewed through a club Flickr account and will be a larger format, again we will work on adding the back catalogue of photos
• When the new site goes live, please take a look at the site and let me know if you have any ideas of additional information that could be added or any corrections. Remember the site exists for the benefit of you the club members.
• Being more practical types we have concentrated more on the nuts and bolts of the news site rather than the aesthetics, if you have artistic tendencies and feel you could contribute to the look of the site please feel free to give us your input.
• Also if anyone would like to make regular contributions in the way of race reports or a club ride programme we can give ‘responsible’ individuals access to post information direct to the site, it’s very easy.
• A word of thanks to Simon I’Anson who set the site up in 2004 and despite moving to London and no longer being a member of the club has paid the domain fees and hosted the site ever since.
Membership
We currently have 136 paid up members for 2014 with 55 of those also taking out British Cycling membership of one level or another. If you not yet paid your 2014 membership please do so as soon as possible as this could affect your insurance in the event of an incident on a club event.
Plus you won’t have received one of our snazzy new membership cards.
Clothing
Latest update from Karen is that the current order is now due for delivery towards the end of April. She does still have some stock items and is taking orders for Polo Shirts and Hoodies, contact her on 07855 044645 for details
Marshalls – Volunteers
All of the following club events require club members to help them take place. We are very lucky in having a hard core of non-cyclist who give freely of their time so that you can ride a club 10, road race or enjoy a reliability ride. However for example the club 10 needs at least 2-3 additional volunteers each week to make sure riders can enjoy a safe event. It is not too much to expect all members to marshall at least once in the season, so when the list goes round please do not ignore it, put your name down.
Club 10 Mile Time Trial – Tuesday 1st April
Starting with a 2-up just to ease you back in gently, ideally sort out a partner of similar ability before the night or you can usually find someone to pair up with on the night.
Due to the ongoing poor condition of the Gorse Lane road surface we will be using the same course as last year.
We will again run 3 season long competitions, Scratch, Handicap and Veterans club as well the usual non- standard events.
PedalPushers Circuit races – 5th April
Following another successful year in 2013 the Pedalpushers circuit race series returns for the third year running, with events based on the Lincolnshire side of the East Midlands region from early April through to August, held under British Cycling regulations.
Races are held for all Youth categories, Ladies, 4th category and 1,2,3 category riders.
The first event is promoted by Witham Wheelers on Saturday 5th April
Barkston Heath – 24th April
Coaching sessions start at Barkston Heath on Wednesday 23rd April and every fortnight thereafter. Gates open at 6.00 with signing on at 6.15. Coaching groups primarily aimed at Youth Riders of all ages and abilities with a chance to put what they learn into practice with coach led races at the end of the session, on a safe traffic free circuit.
Full details to be posted on the club web site.
Club Road Races – Bank Holiday Monday May 26th
Can you make a note in your diary for the event we are promoting Monday May 26th when we promote our annual British Cycling Road Races the GA Bennett for E/1/2/3 categories and the GT Ellingworth for 3/4 categories. This year the GA Bennett incorporates the East Mids Regional champs
Saturday Rides.
Thanks to Suzanne Holdsworth we now have regular rides going out on Saturday morning starting at 9.30 from PedalPushers. These are around 30 miles at a relaxed 12-13mph pace, with a café stop to suit ‘all’ abilities, even some old codgers on a tandem!
Go-Ride – Every Tuesday
We are promoting Go Ride Sessions, these will be delivered by British Cycling qualified coaches and are suitable for ages 6–16 years. All you need is a bike, a helmet and lots of energy and enthusiasm so come and start enjoying one of the fastest growing sports in the UK today.
Time from 6.30 to 7.30 Tuesday evening at the Cricket Club on Gorse Lane. Sessions are held on grass and designed to be fun, helping develop riding skills and confidence
Grantham Food Bank Challenge 21st June
This will be taking part for the second year in aid of Grantham Food Bank, featuring 20 mile and 45 miles routes. Paul Green has offered to sponsor the cost of 20 WW riders through his business, full details will be posted on the web site shortly, all being well
CiCle Classic – 27th April & Lincoln GP 11th May
We are lucky to have 2 of the top road races in the country just a few miles away, that are great events to watch even, believe it or not, for non-cycling family members!
The Cicle Classic from Oakham to Melton, head out to Owston or Borrough on the Hill to see the action several times as they tackle the roads and farm tracks of Rutland, Britains answer to the Paris-Roubaix. Race details at
Then on 11th May its the Lincoln GP, head to the Steep in Lincoln to see all the action and a great atmosphere as the riders lap every 20 minutes or so, tackling the cobbles of Steep hill every lap. Next year it will also incorporate the National Championships
