Club Dinner and Prize Presentation, Belton Golf Club 23 Nov. 2013
The annual Witham Wheelers Cycling Club Dinner and Prize Presentation took place at the Belton Golf Club on Saturday evening. Following an excellent meal Tony Mendham introduced the guest speaker Bryan Steel from Nottingham to the 80 members and guests. Bryan won Olympic medals as part of the GB Team Pursuit Team at Sydney 2000 (Bronze) and Athens 2004 (Silver) and gave an inspirational talk describing how he started in cycling with his local club to the moment of actually winning Olympic medals. He then passed his medals around for everyone to have a close look at.
Following Bryan’s talk Simon Cocker introduced the clubs prize winners for the year and announced the winners of the committee nominated awards with Jennifer McAndrew winning the Merit Trophy, Will Cherry – Young Personality, Crispin Bridges Webb – Most Improved Rider and Michael Smalley – Touring Achievement. The Jack O’Connor Club person of the Year is voted for by members on the evening and was won by Dave Borchard. A great evening was rounded off with a raffle and a chance to catch up on the year and discuss plans for the next season.
