It was down to the woods for the latest round of the Linc’s C-X league, or more precisely Ostlers Plantation at Woodhall Spa. Another popular course with a mix of fast straight tracks, sinuous single track, some ‘bomb holes’ for added excitement and small patches of mud to catch out the unwary.
In the 40 strong Under 16s race Witham Wheelers was again well represented by Amy Kolbert in 22nd overall and just missing out on 1st under 14 girl by 9 seconds.
The under 9s continued to impress with their enthusiasm with Noah Lane 6th leading the way, Max Kolbert 8th, Annabelle Gould 9th (2nd girl), Oliver Wix 10th, Jacob Crowley 19th, Charlotte Crowley 27th.
Under 12s Joshua Lane 10th, Isla Kolbert 15th (3rd Girl), Sam Grundy 17th, Sam Crowley 17th.
With nearly 100 veterans on the starting line the over 40s were started a minute before the over 50s to avoid any big bottlenecks on the single-track. This seemed to work quite well although there was quite a bad unrelated crash at the start of the over 50s which ultimately resulted in the race being finished a lap early. Paul Conneely was the leading local rider in 31st overall (5th vet 50) with Sean East 40th (33rd vet 40) Simon Cocker 59th (4th vet 60), Dave Miller 77th (9th Vet 60). Also good to see last weeks debutants returning after the tough baptism at Hubbards Hills with Adam Kolbert 84th just getting the better of Sacha Wix 85th on the line.
In the weekly battle of the Egner brothers, this week it was Reeces turn to come out on top in 10th overall, with Adam back in 13th, while Henry Gould, another debutant at Hubbards Hills enjoyed a course much more suited to mountain bikes moving upto 28th. The race was won by professional rider Graham Briggs beating George Thompson (Sleaford Whs) in a sprint to the line.
Julie Clark rode another excellent race in the ladies for 5th overall (2nd Vet) which consolidates her position at the top of the Veterans table with one more round to go at Bardney. She is also currently third in the Trophy day series which has 2 more rounds to go at Winterton and Binbrook.
