Witham Wheelers promoted the 5th round of the Lincolnshire cyclo-cross league at Church Farm Stroxton. With dry conditions and the grass quite short it meant that racing was going to be fast and hard with few chances for riders to have a breather on a well laid out course.
The first race for Youth riders under 14 and 16 over 30 minutes saw a really close battle between Sam Howes (Sleaford Whs) and Jensen Windser (Alford Whs) with Sam coming out on top by 2 seconds. Witham Wheelers Amy Kolbert was 17th overall and 3rd U14 girl and Ethan Wakefield 21st overall (9th U14 boy)
Big turn-out of club riders in the under 9s over 10 minutes with a great ride by Annabelle Gould leading the way in 7th overall and 2nd girl. Closely followed by Max Kolbert 8th, Oliver Wix 9th, Thomas Wakefield 11th, Arthur Brearley 15th, Jacob Crowley 19th, Harriet Bailey 23rd, Charlotte Crowley 24th. The race saw another winner from Sleaford Whs Thomas Cragg.
In the under 12s leading Witha Wheeler was Oliver Bailey 10th, from Joshua lane 12th, Sam Grundy 15th, Isla Kolbert 17th (3rd girl), Samuel Crowley 19th.
The veterans race as usual had the biggest field of the day 76 riders and saw a 3 way battle which went all the way to the final sprint finish after 40 minutes with Rick Lister (Team Jewson) one second in front of Steve Wood (Ellmore Factory Racing) also one second in front of Dave Allen (Alford Whs). Paul Conneely was also in a race long battle with 5 other riders finishing up in 22nd overall (5th vet 50). With some of the other regular club veteran riders absent, Sacha Wix had a go at his first cross race finishing 72nd.
In the 1 hour senior race regular winner George Thompson (Sleaford Whs) won by almost a minute from Kieron Brown (8 point 8). Adam Egner took a good 9th place while brother Reece was back in 16th.
Run in conjunction with the seniors but finishing after 40 minutes another good result for Julie Clark in the Ladies finishing 3rd overall and 1st veteran.
A great days racing with almost 200 riders competing in the various categories.
